The story of the road

A threshold, walked on purpose.

Liminal means on the threshold: the place between one room and the next. The whole course lives there, in the moment between what happens and what you do.

A prince wakes small in a garden. He grows up in the forest beyond it, where old voices whisper from the trees: the voices of everyone who taught him how the world works.

At a bell he learns one slow breath. At the treeline, on a flat stone, he finds a crown. It is plain, a stand-in, not the real one; it lets him take a breath and steer for a moment, which is enough for now. From the ridge he sees the whole island, and a road.

The road runs upstream beside a river, through ten towns. Each town is one pattern most of us live in: trust, control, closeness, belonging, rank, strength, achievement, wanting, giving and having. In every town two ordinary people, Eve and Adam, show how it plays out on a normal day.

The road is not a trail. Trails are worn without choosing. The road is walked on purpose, and it ends at a gate.

When something lands, you feel the reaction start in your body before the story in your head takes over.

A map of ten patterns, each with two sides and four ways of living it, so you can name what is running you.

One breath, one small move.

The Anchor breath, and one named practice per town that you have actually done, not just read about.

The psychology underneath

Carl Jung called these patterns complexes: an old human shape (an archetype) with your own life pressed into it, carrying a charge of feeling that can take over for a while. You never get rid of one. You change your relationship to it, and you start to see the other side, with its own pleasure and pain, which you could walk towards one step at a time.

What it is not

  • Not fixing you, and not a personality type.
  • Not deleting a pattern; patterns are kept, and understood.
  • Not therapy or crisis support. If you are in danger or crisis, contact your local emergency services.

How it is laid out

The road, town by town.

First the area before Town 1: the garden, two short courses and a check that finds your leading town. Then ten towns, about two weeks each, every one with its own symbol, colour and meaning. Then the gate. Town names after Town 1 may still change.

The biology

Much more depth: what the body and brain are doing, more examples and more films.

The three levels follow my mother's teaching tiers: fundamentals, intermediate and biology. Exactly what each level holds is still being decided.

For anyone who notices the same reaction coming back, at work, with money, in love or at home, and would like a little more room before it takes over.

You do not need to know any psychology. It starts from nothing: the first page works for someone who has never heard the word complex.
